Sterling Tool Works – Fine Tools That Inspire!

I have known Marco Terenzi for about 6 months, following his outstanding work on Instagram (his IG handle is @marcoterenzi).  Marco is an incredibly talented artist that has specialized in making mini tools.  This spring he was commissioned to make a ¼ scale Anarchist’s Tool Chest inspired by Christopher Schwarz book.   Marco had more than 400 hours into this tour de force, you can find pictures of this incredible process here.  Marco shared with me some of his progress before the big reveal and I was blown away with each photo from him.

A couple of weeks ago Marco casually posted this shot on instagram.

I was humbled that he chose to make a mini of Sterling’s Saddle Tail.  Its made of Damascus steel that he forged himself.  After I gained my composure, we continued to talk and Marco decided to take on Sterling Tool Works second tool, the Plane Hammer.  I am so blown away by Marco’s skill if you are not following Marco and his work you should.

I plan to have these mini’s carefully guarded on display at my booth at WIA.

Marco, there is not a higher honor I can think of than to have you choose to make mini’s of my tools.  Thank you for carrying the torch  forward for the miniature greats like Paul Hamler!

My friend Mark Hicks has been very busy building me a bench for my booth at WIA, he has been chronicling the build on Instagram and Twitter both handles are @markbuildsit.  The split top Roubo is a great bench for shows as it can be broken down easily for transport.  Its inspired by older design that Jameel at Benchcrafted made a few years ago.  There are some custom aspects that make it my own, and the Leg vise chop and sliding deadman are left to finish by the enduser.

I can’t wait to get this bench; it’s truly first class craftsmanship.  While this unit is already sold to me, there is another unit that Mark is building for sale that will be in his booth.

I was contacted about 4 months ago by Scott Meek to see if I was interested in donating some Sterling Tool Works items to commemorate Fred West, a huge proponent of Boutique tool suppliers that lost his battle with Cancer.  I was sorry that I never met him but his legacy helped me gain the fortitude to start Sterling Tool Works.  I was honored to be asked and be amongst the other great participants.

I am thankful for the support that all my customers have provided and continue to provide Sterling Tool Works.  Its been about 9 months since the first sale of Saddle-Tails at WIA 2013.  The Saddle-Tails that I am making today are the best yet but continue to be labor intensive to get the fit and finish to my increasing standards. I will be raising the price of the Saddle-Tails modestly from $75 to $80 at midnight July 18th 2014.  I give this notice to those that might have been considering a purchase and just haven’t got around to placing an order. Some of you will note that last week the introductory pricing of the Saddle-Tail 2 expired and it is now $60 each.   Thank you for your continued support!
